How to choose the suitable centrifuge?

First clarify your needs, and then screen products according to your needs. You need to consider the following questions:

1. What type of sample will be processed? What is the maximum relative centrifugal force required for each type of sample?

2. What are the maximum sample size, general sample size and minimum sample size that need to be processed in the experiment?

3. Is temperature control required during processing? Is biocontainment required?

After understanding the requirements, consider the performance and parameters of the centrifuge from the following five aspects:

1. Temperature control range

Some samples (such as proteins, cells, etc.) will be destroyed in a high temperature environment, which requires a refrigerated centrifuge. It should be noted that the centrifuge will generate heat when it is running at high speed, and this heat will be balanced with the cooling system of the centrifuge at a certain temperature. This temperature range is the real temperature during the experiment.

2. Speed of the centrifuge

The maximum speed of the centrifuge refers to the speed under no-load conditions. After the sample is loaded, its rotational speed will definitely be lower than the nominal maximum rotational speed. When purchasing a product, it is necessary to pay attention to choosing a centrifuge with a higher rotational speed range than the required rotational speed.

3. Capacity of the centrifuge

The total capacity of the centrifuge = the capacity of each centrifuge tube × the number of centrifuge tubes, the total capacity and the size of the workload are matched.

4. The rotor of the centrifuge

The common ones are horizontal rotor and angular rotor. When the horizontal rotor is running, the hanging basket is in a horizontal state, which is at right angles to the rotating shaft, and the sample concentrates the sediment at the bottom of the centrifuge tube. The rotation axis of the angle rotor forms a fixed angle with the container, and the sample concentrates the sediment at the bottom of the centrifuge tube and the side wall near the bottom. There are also some special rotors: large-capacity hanging baskets (mostly used in blood banks), microplate rotors, glass slide rotors, PCR rotors, test tube rack rotors and capillary rotors, etc.

5. The control system of the centrifuge

The high-grade centrifuges all adopt the microcomputer control system. Many centrifuges have some intelligent functions, such as rotor identification, safety lock, fault prompt, speed curve, etc.

How to maintenance centrifuge?

1. When we use the centrifuge, the first thing to do is to keep the centrifuge tube and its contents balanced on the balance, the balance difference is also required and must not exceed the range specified in the centrifuge manual.

2. If the centrifugation operation is carried out at a relatively low temperature, it is best to put the head in the refrigerator or outdoors for pre-cooling before use.

3. Someone must be present during the centrifugation process, do not leave at will, observe the normal operation of the centrifuge at any time, and keep records, if there are abnormalities should be immediately stopped to check, and timely troubleshooting.

4. The use of the head to check whether the use of excessive speed, because each head has a maximum speed and the use of the cumulative limit. It is best to build a file of the head, record the use of time, if the maximum use limit is exceeded, the speed must be reduced according to the provisions of the use.

5. Loading solution to be carried out according to the operating instructions of the centrifuge, the choice of suitable centrifuge tube, some centrifuge tube without cover, the liquid shall not be loaded too much to prevent centrifugation, resulting in imbalance, rust or corrosion of the head, and the preparation of ultracentrifuge centrifuge tube, it is often required to be filled with liquid, so as to avoid centrifugation of the upper part of the plastic centrifuge tube depression deformation.

6. After each use, carefully check the head, timely cleaning, wipe dry, careful when moving, not collision, to avoid causing injury, the head is not used for a long time, to be coated with a layer of varnish wax protection, the use of significantly deformed, damaged or aging centrifuge tube is strictly prohibited.
